Jacob is sad and I am also very sad, today. I just saw the teaser trailer for Avatar: The Last Airbender. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but I was a disappointed. The boy playing Aang looks so angry and that is not at all how Aang is. Then on top of that he looks nothing like Aang.
Aang is eleven years old, but the boy looks about seven. He looks too young to play Aang. No offense, but he’s kind of chubby. Aang is not chubby.
Then upon further research, I discover who will be playing Zuko, Katara, and Sokka. I was extremely surprised at the choices.
Jackson Rathbone is supposed to play Sokka. What?!
This is the dude from Twilight who plays Jasper, the silent and creepy Jasper. Jackson is 23 years old; Sokka is like 15 or sixteen throughout the cartoon. He’s way too old to be playing that part. He even looks too old to play that part. It doesn’t even make any sense.
Then the girl who plays Katara. Oh, God. She looks like a little girl child. She looks nothing like Katara and she looks way too young.
She’s pale and blonde and Katara has a darker complexion with dark hair. What was going through their heads?
Then Zuko is being played by that dude from Slum dog Millionaire, Dev Patel. *sigh* I don’t even know what to say about this choice. I can’t really see him as Zuko. And what happened to his scary-looking scar. It’s barely anything on his face. WTH?
First I heard Jesse McCartney was supposed to play this part, but he had to step down because of scheduling conflicts. At least Jesse would look something like Zuko, not exactly like him, but something like him. I think.
Aw, who they hell am I kidding. No , he won't.
Now, this dude is doing it.
The casting for this film is going all wrong; they are not sticking to the cartoon at all. I know they are not going to get the look of some of the characters exactly right, but this is so far off from the mark there in outer space.
I have nothing against these actors and actresses; it’s just that they don’t fit the characters at all.
It’s extremely disheartening. I was so looking forward to the live-action film adaptation, but, now, not so much.
They need to scrap all the actors they’ve got and start over because as far as I’ve seen; I am not the only person upset about this.
If that is the case, I think big studio execs are going to be very disappointed in ticket sales. Unless, people go see it anyway to see how bad it is. : P
Any movie can have a bunch of great special effects, but bad acting can make it complete crap.
I really believe this movie is going to suck, and that makes me very sad. Avatar happens to be one of my favorite cartoons.I hate when Hollywood ruins a great cartoon by making a crappy live-action movie.
Although, the special effects may be on point, does that excuse the bad casting? I don’t think so. At least, it doesn’t to me and whole lot of other people.
